The three of us, Eric, our 90-year-old host Howard and I, woke up early to drive up Sandia Mountain Peak, right outside of Albuquerque. On the first leg of the journey a hawk swooped two feet from our windshield with a writhing squirrel caught in its talons. Unfortunately, I was not able to even lift up my camera and attempt to shoot because I was frozen in awe. We were driving down a winding dirt road through an oasis in the desert, where a small creek ran beside us, and the hills were teeming with life and color. Chipmunks scurried in and out of the crevices along the sunwashed cliffs. I was lucky enough to caputure a hawk resting in a barren tree and a Tiger Swallowtail sipping on a red flower, but the chipmunks were too fast for me. It was a memorable trip to say the least, but our spirits were slightly dampened when we checked on Moby Dick in the shop to discover over $1,200 of repair needed to be done, and that included a leaking radiator and waterpump. Obviously this is money we do not have, so the waterpump will have to wait. We're nervous about traversing the desert ahead because we're told by the locals here that even new cars have difficulty and car shops/gas stations are few and far between. However, we have faith that everything will work out. Please everybody send positive energy our way!

Wow! Denny and i made it to the top of that same crest in our little 16' Dolphin motorhome, and everyone said we'd never make it to the top!!! Memories... I was keeping a Gratitude Journal, and really, thru all the wild experiences (our waterpump or some such thing broke down at the Grand CAnyon!) absolutely Astounding Miracles happened each day!On Route 90 (route 10) at least, going into CA, there are huge vats of water along the highway every 100' or so, to help get people thru the desert. You see all these cars stopping at each one to pour cool water over their engines...In the old days, there were these canvas bags full of cool water that people laid on the radiator, like a built-in cooling system...All our thoughts and prayers are with you two as you take this Journey.love, peace & cool radiators, LindaJOY
